2024 Moores Cancer Center Annual Scientific Retreat
The 2024 Moores Cancer Center Annual Scientific Retreat brought our current and future scientists together on September 4th to collaborate and shape cancer care’s future. Almost 300 of our MCC members showed up at the Scripps Seaside Forum for a day of inter-programmatic & transdisciplinary thinking.
The day consisted of an introduction by Vice Chancellor for Health Sciences, Dr. John Carethers, keynote addresses by Dr. Diane M. Simeone, Moores Cancer Center Director, and Dr. Karandeep Singh, Chief Health AI Officer, breakthrough research presentations from accomplished UCSD, LJI, and SDSU scientists. Our members attended OTS (Office of Translational Science) networking sessions on topics ranging from immunotherapy to cancer disparities; as well as participating in educational events such as the Jawsome Shark Tank Multidisciplinary Pilot Project Program and Trainee Poster Session. This year we also celebrated, our outstanding first time principal investigators, the MCC CCSG Early-Stage Clinical Investigators awardees, and we concluded with a fun opportunity drawing for the participants! The evening ended with live music from the “Adverse Events,” a band of MCC oncologists: Dr. Soo Park, Dr. Greg Daniels, Dr. Tyler Stewart, & Dr. Fred Millard.
A huge congratulations to the winning team of the Jawsome Shark Tank: Sharon Choi and Britta Larsen with their Co-I, Patrick Pablo. Another shoutout to the winners of our Trainee Poster Session: Daniel Stehle, Shahnawaz Baba, Jibin Zhang, and Joseph Bendik.
Thank you to everyone who attended and made this event possible. We look forward to seeing you next year. See images from the retreat below.
