The MILPAS Lab is dedicated to understanding the factors that influence older Latinos’ participation in Alzheimer’s Disease research, especially in studies that involve biomarker procedures such as lumbar punctures, brain imaging, and brain donation. Our goal is to uncover the barriers and motivations within this community, ensuring that their voices are heard and represented in scientific efforts to better diagnose and treat Alzheimer’s disease. By addressing these gaps, we aim to foster more inclusive research that benefits both individuals and the broader Latino community.
We are also committed to developing normative data for neuropsychological tests specifically for Latinos in the U.S. and Latin America. This critical work ensures that cognitive assessments are culturally and linguistically appropriate, providing more accurate diagnoses and advancing research into cognitive health for Latino populations. By establishing these norms, we aim to improve the precision of cognitive testing and contribute to reducing health disparities in neuropsychological care for Latino communities.
