WordPress was created as a blogging platform and by default, displays the most recent blog posts on your home page. However, it also works as a traditional website by utilizing a “static front page”. When you create a new site on Simple Sites, it will create a traditional site with a homepage, article page, and blog page to display your posts.
Posts vs. pages
Content on WordPress is either a Post or a Page. Posts are designed for time-sensitive content, such as blogs, news articles, and other updates. Posts are organized chronologically, with the newest displaying at the top and can be organized into categories and tags to help users and search engines find related content. They typically have comments enabled, allowing users to engage with the content, ask questions, and leave feedback and are included in your site’s RSS feed, which allows readers to subscribe to your blog and get updates whenever new posts are published.
Pages don’t have a date associated with them and are not meant to be part of a blog archive. They usually do not have comments enabled as they are meant for static, informational content but you can enable comments on pages if you like.
If you want your website to behave like a traditional blog:
- Go to the Dashboard – Settings > Reading
- Next to Your Homepage Displays, check the “Your latest posts” radio button.
- Click Save Changes.
Your posts will now appear on your homepage. It will display up to 10 but you can change the settings.
